Kiln dried lumber is ideal in most circumstances as the wood has been dried in an controlled environment to a specific level. With pine being a soft wood, the sticks set in between the boards when in the kiln often leave marks (impressions and or stains) that are called 'sticker shadow'. When installed on a wall you can see them through the stain/finish which can be a problem for some customers. Especially if installed on a home or cottage you want your boards to have a clean more finished look. On a old barn or shed, those marks don't matter as much so we can offer you rough sawn material as well.
Our most popular siding is Board and Batten. The 1 x 12 barn board is dressed on one side and on 2 edges for uniform size. The rustic finish side has a machined rough face. This roughed up face is a great surface for stain or paint to grip to and the planer and rougher head removes sticker shadow marks while achieving a consistent 13/16” finished thickness x 11 ¼” width. We normally rip the board into 5 equal pieces to make battens that are 2 1/8” wide and can be used as is or we can dress them up with bevel , rounded or coved edges.
"Dressed for thickness" means all the boards lie flush - your battens lay flat to the board. Rough sawn means rough in finish but also rough in size. Our milled pine gives you uniform thickness, uniform width, and uniform appearance for easy install and a superior result!
The shavings created in milling down to our size are sold as premium bedding for the Equine industry. Everything gets used!
We also distribute your choice of Maibec or Cap Cod factory pre-finished wood siding. We previously offered Fraserwood siding - which has since been acquired by Cape Cod.
